Sendai Station is a central station in Sendai, the central city of the Tohoku region.
All the Tohoku Shinkansen trains passing through Sendai Station stop here. The Shinkansen works as high-speed access from Miyagi Prefecture to Tokyo. Business people, tourists and others, more than 40,000 travelers per day, use the Shinkansen. For local lines, Tohoku Line, Senzan Line for Yamagata, and Senseki Line for Ishinomaki run from Sendai Station. Also, the Joban Line runs to Iwaki City located along the sea coast in Fukushima Prefecture. Connects Sendai Station and Sendai Airport Access Line in about 17 minutes at the shortest. The Sendai City Subway Line runs north-south and connects with the station.
The "Sendai Tourist Information Center" is on the 2nd floor of the station. They can provide you with overall tourist information on Sendai, from access to trains, buses, etc. to specialties. An English-speaking staff stands by. Please feel free to use the center.

Taking or Changing the Shinkansen to Morioka/Akita
For Morioka/Akita, go up to 3F, pass through the Shinkansen Central Ticket Gate or South Ticket Gate, and go to Shinkansen Platform 11/12 (inbound/outbound) following the signboard for the platform.
When taking the Akita Shinkansen "Komachi," follow the signboards of "Akita Shinkansen Komachi" and "Please wait here for KOMACHI." Get on the Akita Shinkansen Komachi on Cars 16-11.
You can go to Morioka by either Tohoku Shinkansen "Hayate" or "Yamabiko," or Akita Shinkansen "Komachi." "Hayate" is for Hachinohe, "Yamabiko" is for Morioka, and "Komachi" is for Akita.

Taking or Changing to the Shinkansen to Fukushima/Koriyama
For Fukushima/Koriyama, go up to 3F, pass through the Shinkansen Central Ticket Gate or South Ticket Gate, and go to the Tohoku/Akita Shinkansen Platform 13/14, or Tohoku/Akita Shinkansen Platform 11/12 (inbound/outbound) at 3F, following the signboards for each platform.
For Fukushima/Koriyama, get on Tohoku Shinkansen "Max Yamabiko" or "Yamabiko." Since some Shinkansen trains do not stop at Koriyama Station, you need to be careful.

Change for a local line/Sendai Airport Access Line
When changing for a local line for Yamagata or Sendai Airport Access Line, passing through "Tohoku Line, Joban Line, Senzan Line and Sendai Airport Access Line Transfer" following the signboard, go to the local line platforms on the 2nd floor.
When taking the Senzan Line for Yamagata, get on at Local Line Platform 7/8.
When taking the Sendai Airport Access Line for Sendai Airport, get on at Local Line Platform 3/4.

Change for a Bus to Yamagata Zao
If you want to change for a bus to Yamagata Zao, exit the Shinkansen Central Ticket Gate and go down to the 2nd floor of the station following the signboard "for West/East Exit." On the 2nd floor, pass through the East-West accessway following the signboard "for East Exit" and go to the East Exit pedestrian deck. Go to East Exit Bus Pool No. 46, using the elevator, escalator, or stairs with the sign of "D." You need to be careful. Since buses other than the one for Yamagata Zao also use this bus stop.
If you need to purchase a bus ticket or need bus information, go to the pedestrian deck on the 1st floor using the elevator, escalator, or stairs with the "bus ticket counter" sign and go to the JR Bus East Exit Information Center.

Runs as a seasonal service from December, at the time of the opening of the ski resort to the end of March.

3F "Gyutan Dori (Beef Tongue Street)" and "Sushi Dori (Sushi Street)"
Sendai is the birthplace of Gyutan or beef tongue dishes. On "Gyutan Dori" located near the Ticket Gate of the Shinkansen on the 3rd floor, restaurants stand side by side, and have prepared variegated menus from routine and popular dishes to arranged dishes. At Sushi Dori restaurants, you can taste fresh seafood at reasonable prices, since nearby Sendai Bay is a good fishing ground.
