In this tour, you will soothe your mind and body at a gorgeous and luxurious Japanese hotel and hot spring, enjoy local foods and sake, watch local performing arts, and attend a sky lantern event. A well-known American guide will further enrich your journey.
On Day 1, you will enjoy local meat with wine pairings and watch a special dance performance of Hayachine Kagura, a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. On Day 2, you will have a try at making the talisman shinobi koma (horse doll made of rice straw and decorated with beautiful cloths). Afterwards, you will get firsthand experience being a “brewmaster” of Nanbu Toji (a school of Japan’s leading sake makers based in Iwate Prefecture) by tasting local sake (involving judging the taste, aroma, etc. of sake). In the evening, you will attend the Hanamaki Hoshimeguri no Yoru festival, where lanterns written with people’s wishes are raised into the night sky. Both the traditional performing art of Shishi dance and the lanterns that float into the starry sky in a snowy landscape create a magical atmosphere. On Day 3, you will experience snow activities and eat wanko soba (a server standing near the customer keeps pouring soba noodles into the customer’s bowl whenever the customer finishes eating the soba in the bowl).
