Immerse yourself in Japanese traditional culture and bond with Japanese people in places without any tourists besides you.
On Day 1, you will eat a traditional dish called damako nabe (local cuisine made by cooking balls of rice called “damako” with chicken, maitake mushrooms, Japanese leek, deep-fried tofu, and burdock and seasoned with soy sauce and sake). You will also watch and get a firsthand experience of Oga’s traditional culture, namahage (an event in which namahage wearing demon-like masks visit homes and admonish laziness).
On Day 2, you will attend a namahage drum class and see a dynamic performance. In addition, you will experience zazen meditation at and have a leisurely tour of a beautiful temple.
On Day 3, you will trek around Goshado, a set of five ancient shrines which are considered the origin of the namahage legend.
Over the three days, you will come into contact with various people and cultures of Oga and bond with the locals. Unlike Kyoto and Tokyo, none of your experiences will be interrupted by other tourists.
