Hachimantai is an all year mountain resort area home to Mt. Iwate and Mt. Hachimantai, two of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains (100 mountains all over Japan were selected based on character, history, and distinctiveness by writer and mountaineer Kyuya Fukada for writing a book of essays called, One Hundred Mountains of Japan (1964)). Hachimantai Mountain Hotel is staffed with guides certified by the Japan Mountain Guides Association and offers trekking programs for exploring the nature of Hachimantai on foot. Various routes are available, from easy routes for beginners that can be completed in around two hours, to more rigorous intermediate to advanced-level hiking routes. All programs are open to small groups. You will stay at Hachimantai Mountain Hotel, the starting point of the trekking. Staying at this hotel is a must if you are visiting Hachimantai.
