On the Pacific side of Fukushima Prefecture (Hamadori area), there have been townscapes left unchanged since people were forced to evacuate due to the nuclear power plant disaster. However, Fukushima is also home to many areas on the steady path to revitalization, but still is facing various social issues. There are local people who continue aiming at solving these issues and revitalizing the society. We are carrying out ‘hope tourism’ as a new type of tourism in which we hand down the lessons from the earthquake and nuclear power plant disaster; we view the local problems of Fukushima as a problem common throughout Japan and the world through talks with the locals who are working toward revitalization of the area where the earthquake disaster and the nuclear power plant accident occurred.
