This shrine enshrines over 56,000 souls of people who died in battle since the Meiji Restoration. It is located on the site of the former keep of Sendai Castle, and is a popular destination for Hatsumode (the first shrine visit of the New Year) and Shichi-go-san (traditional shrine visits for children at certain ages). *This information is as of the end of April 2020.
