Takayu Onsen

Takayu Onsen

Milky white hot spring waters flow directly from their underground source

Takayu Onsen is a hot spring town nestled in the Azuma Mountains. Visitors can enjoy nine of the ten sources of spring water in this town surrounded by pristine natural beauty.

The rich spring waters of this area are a popular regional attraction. The local inns and hotels offer pure hot spring water flowing directly from its source without additives. Water temperatures are naturally adjusted as it flows over the surrounding slopes.

Takayu Onsen features milky-white sulphuric spring water that is said to help with ailments including high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis and rheumatism. The Onsen has long been popular with people seeking therapeutic remedies. A 10-day stay is recommended to receive the full health benefits of the hot spring treatment.

Historically Takayu Onsen was a favoured location for great artists. Rambling around the town you will find evidence of their presence including a monument with a poem inscribed by Mokichi Saito. A drive to Takayu Onsen along the Bandai Azuma Skyline is rewarded with splendid views including the Azuma Hakkei (the eight views of Azuma) selected by the famous writer Yasushi Inoue.
