Ideha Cultural Museum

Drop by before visiting Mt. Haguro!

Ideha Cultural Museum is a museum located near the Zuijin Gate at the approach to Mt. Haguro - one of the Three Mountains of Dewa that is a place of mountain worship. You can learn about the history and world of the Three Mountains of Dewa, a sacred place for mountain worship, by looking at the valuable materials handed down through the generations in the Three Mountains of Dewa over 1,400 years.

The sound of the conch shell blown by the yamabushi (practitioners of mountain worship) is said to have the power to arouse all living creatures from a state of confusion and exorcise various evils. There is also an area in which you can blow a conch shell that is a requisite of yamabushi. Why don't you try blowing a conch shell that is said to be difficult for beginners. The museum will also lend you a cane to use when climbing the 2,446 stone steps to the summit of Mt. Haguro for free. You can also take a restroom break and collect information before climbing to the summit of Mt. Haguro.

We recommend the yamabushi training experience for those who are not satisfied with just sightseeing. You can wear white clothing and experience a part of this training separated from the everyday world to absorb the natural energy of the Three Mountains of Dewa into your body. You can also experience coexistence with nature and people to reexamine yourself. This experience is held over three days and two nights in early September every year. If you are interested, please contact the Ideha Cultural Museum.
