The Ishinomori Manga Museum is dedicated to the Manga artist Shotaro Ishinomori. With a unique exterior designed like a spaceship, the museum is also known as Mangattan Museum as it is located in the island of Nakaze, which from above resembles New York’s Manhattan.
Exhibiting original pictures and a varying display on one of his major works, Kamen Riders, the museum is a paradise for Manga fans. Visitors can enjoy reading 6,000 Manga works at the library and experience making an animated movie at the multimedia studio.
The on-site café resembles a cockpit and offers refreshing views of Mount Hiyori, the Mogami River and the Pacific Ocean. The gift shop offers a range of exclusive products.
Before stepping into the museum, shake the bronze hand statue of Ishinomori welcoming visitors at the entrance.
Look out for characters from Ishinomori’s works scattered throughout Ishinomaki, the town of Manga. Statues of characters from his compositions are lined along Ishinomaki Manga Road connecting Ishinomaki station and the Ishinomori Manga museum.
Anyone particularly interested in Ishinomori should also visit the Shotaro Ishinomori Memorial Museum located in his home town of Nakadacho in Tome-city to learn more about him.
