This roadside station is about 15 minutes by car from Ishinomaki City, around Route 45.
The big draw of this roadside station is its onsen hot spring! At Futago-no-yu you can simply drop by to enjoy the fully equipped facility with its cypress bathtubs both indoors and outdoors, as well as a cold-water bath and sauna. There is a large room where you can lie down and relax and for an extra charge there are also private rooms available. This station is particularly popular among people who are staying in their vehicles while on the road and you will see a good number of camper vans. The greenish cloudy hot spring water is extremely rich in salt and iron and so even after getting out of the bathtub you continue to feel warm for a long time.
Of course, there are all the facilities that you would expect at a roadside station, including stalls selling local produce, restaurants and a convenience store. You can buy agricultural produce and fresh seafood that has been certified as having been eco-farmed or eat your fill at a hand-made buffet consisting of local vegetables, or sample delicately flavoured ramen (salt-flavoured seafood Iso ramen, unique to this region). If you’re driving along the Sanriku Expressway, be sure to stop by.
