These volunteers guide foreign visitors to Koriyama around the city and assist in conveying the frontier spirit of the Asaka Land Development (a national project implemented by the Meiji Government in the late 19th century). They do their best to respond flexibly to each visitor’s requests and build rapport with the visitors without behaving in a perfunctory manner. They introduce aspects of Japanese and regional culture such as manju (traditional sweet bun with bean jam filling), handmade crafts and tea ceremony, using photos and illustrations so that people of all ages can understand. Two basic courses are available.
