A symbol of winter, the Sendai Pageant of Starlight transforms Sendai, which is known as a “city of sacred forests,” into a city of starlight. This illumination event is held centred on Jozenji-dori Avenue, one of the main streets of Sendai City, from early December to the night of 31 December annually. About 600,000 decorative round lights are placed on the roughly 160 zelkova trees that line Jozenji-dori Avenue, illuminating the avenue with a warm glow. The lighting ceremony takes place on the first day of the event at the pedestrian path in front of Sendai Mediatheque, and the lights all come on at once after the countdown. The illuminated streets that appear on winter nights as a visual illusion will make you feel as if you entered a world of fantasy.
The beautiful lights are a present to the peoples of the world. Please enter this beautiful dream world once a year.
