Icemaker Expedition(Kesennuma Tourism & Convention Bureau)

Enter an ice-making plant normally closed to the public. See and cut huge ice blocks in this hands-on icemaker expedition.

Icemaker Expedition
Ice is indispensable for transporting fish caught in Kesennuma City, a fishery city, and keeping them fresh. This tour will take you inside a plant that manufactures this ice. Visit a plant that continuously makes huge blocks of ice weighing 135 kg. In the -10°C ice stockroom, you will experience a world of ice glimmering in ice blue color. Try cutting the 135 kg-freshly made ice with an old-fashioned saw, and eat shaved ice made with cut ice. Shaved ice made with an icemaker’s ice will gently melt in your mouth and become addictive. Check out this icemaker to learn about and savor ice.
