The Sendai-Aoba Matsuri Festival is a traditional event in early summer in Sendai, carrying on the traditions of the Sendai Matsuri held in the days of the former Sendai clan and the Aoba Matsuri held after the Meiji Restoration. The city of Sendai is decorated with the heroic Yamahoko floats, period processions, and the spectacular Sendai Suzume Odori dance.
