The forested area on the inland (east) side of Mt. Chokai is dotted with natural attractions that are considered to be unexplored regions. The abundant water resources provided by Mt. Chokai have created marshlands, streams, waterfalls, and rivers, creating a dynamic natural landscape. The famous Hottai Falls is protected as an Akita Prefectural Place of Scenic Beauty and a Prefectural Natural Monument, the Kuwanokidai Wetland is a secluded area with beautiful views of wild grass, flowers, and Mt. Chokai, and the beautiful autumn foliage of the Ryugahara Wetland can be seen at Mt. Chokai's Haraigawa Trailhead from the 5th station. You can find wooden trails suitable for walking and guided tours by local guides are also available.

Guides will be from the Yurihonjo City Chokaisan Guide Association or have the Chokaisan Tobishima Geopark Guide Certification. They are not mountain guides so a request is required if your purpose is to go mountain climbing. Please make reservations for guides at least two weeks in advance.
