Sanriku Railway Kotatsu Train
The “Kotatsu Train” is a sightseeing train operating exclusively on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays during winter between Kuji Station (Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture) and Miyako Station (Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture).Trains bound for Miyako Station are coupled with regular scheduled trains, while trains bound for Kuji Station run as standalone special trains.
It's a truly enjoyable train where you can warm up under a kotatsu while taking in the splendid winter views of the Sanriku coast from the windows and savoring delicious local flavors onboard.Inside the “Kotatsu Train,” you can enjoy boxed lunches like the “Big Catch Boat Song Meal” and “Abalone Bento,” as well as sweets (reservation required).
Additionally, Sanriku Railway attendants will be on board to provide guidance, and it's said that somewhere along the route, a “Namomi” (a demon resembling Akita's Namahage) will make an appearance inside the train.
There is also a "Western-style Kotatsu Train". For details, please see the following website.Image: "Sanriku Railway Co.
