Takamatsu no Ike Pond

A famous spot for cherry blossoms and home to wintering swans

Takamatsu no Ike Pond
In the spring, Takamatsu no Ike Pond is bathed in the beautiful cherry blossoms that surround it and filled with throngs of visitors taking it all in. It has been selected as one of the Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan, but the park is also known for its colourful flowers, such as peonies in mid-May and roses in mid-June. The autumn leaves are beautiful around late October, and many swans start to flock to the pond around November. At their peak in January, more than 600 swans winter in the pond until around May.
The trail around the pond (approximately 1.4 kilometres) is a pleasant walk. You can walk around the pond in about 20 minutes even at a leisurely pace, and you can spend a relaxing time here enjoying the different scenery in each season and bird watching.
The Morioka Sakura Festival is held at Morioka Castle Ruins Park and Takamatsu Park (Takamatsu no Ike Pond) from the middle of April to the beginning of May. There are times when vehicle traffic is restricted during the Sakura Festival, so beware of this when visiting by car.
