Korekawa Archaeological Institution: (Korekawa Jomon Kan)
The Korekawa Jomon Kan promotes Hachinohe's Jomon culture through the display of artifacts excavated from archaeological sites.It also functions to research buried cultural properties in Hachinohe City. The exterior of the building is designed in the image of a "Jomon-era pit dwelling" or "black and red.
The exhibition room consists of (1) a theater that evokes the Jomon world, (2) a corner that conveys the beauty of the Jomon to the senses, and (3) a corner that explains the research results of the Korekawa Ruins.A national treasure, the "Gassho Dogu" is on display, allowing visitors to experience the spiritual world of the Jomon.
The Korekawa Stone Age Site adjacent to the Korekawa Jomon Kan was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2021 as part of the "Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan Important cultural assets excavated from the ruins are stored and displayed for viewing.

*The Branch Library (Jomon Study Hall) and Korekawa Stone Age Site cannot be visited for the time being due to construction work associated with the maintenance of the historic site.


Volunteer guides will be on hand to explain the exhibits (in English) free of charge.
Reservations are required at least one week prior to your visit.
