Michinoeki Tendo Onsen

A roadside station where you can have fun all day: a water fountain square, playground equipment, footbath, direct from farm produce and cafeteria

Michinoeki Tendo Onsen
Michinoeki Tendo Onsen is a large roadside station located along National Route 13 that connects the Shonai region that is famous for Risshakuji Temple, Zao and the Three Mountains of Dewa (Mt. Haguro, Mt. Gassan and Mt. Yudono). There is a rest area that you can use 24 hours a day in the adjacent Mori-na Tendo forest information center. This is also convenient as a spot to take a break while driving. There is a square and playground equipment, so children can enjoy themselves.
There are three water fountains that match the sound of a music box in the center of the multipurpose square with a size of approximately 20,000 square meters. It is packed with children playing in the water in the summer.
The large playground equipment in the square is a popular spot with children. A number of plates engraved with composed shogi problems worthy of Tendo - town of shogi pieces - have been installed in the area around the water fountain square. These problems have been set by noted shogi players such as Yoshiharu Habu who has won the National Honor Award. Please then take a footbath when you are tired from having so much fun. The footbath in a shape of a shogi piece is known by the nickname of Koma no Yu (Shogi Piece Hot Spring) and you can use it for free. It is ideal as a place to take a break when driving.
Sun Pure, a direct from the farm produce shop, adjacent to the roadside station is popular with tourists buying souvenirs. The most popular products are the fruits in the direct from the farm produce area. Tendo is a place where the seasons for fruits arrive in succession - cherries from mid-June, grapes from mid-August, apples from late September and La France pears from early November. Fresh and tasty fruits harvested that day by contract farmers are lined up in the store every day.
The eat-in-space is home to a popular buffet where you can eat and compare three kinds of rice that are the pride of the area - Tsuyahime, Haenuki and Yukiwakamaru. You can take a second helping of rice as many times as you like! Combine tasty side dishes with the shiny rice and have many second helpings. The curry goes perfectly with Yukiwakamaru. Also popular are the gelatos sold in the log house in front of the direct from the farm produce shop. It is so popular that there are also people who have to eat this gelato first when they come to Michinoeki Tendo. There are always 10 flavors on sale (e.g., La France pear milk and rice (Tsuyahime) gelato. If you are unsure which to try, you can eat two flavors with a double serving!
