Watch & Participate in Noshiro Tanabata “The Nightless Skycity”(Noshiro Tourism Association (NPO))

Noshiro’s traditional summer festival with Japan’s tallest giant lanterns!

Watch & Participate in Noshiro Tanabata “The Nightless Skycity”
The tourou (a type of lantern) is one of Japan’s traditional lighting implements. In this festival, two giant lanterns, nicknamed “castles in the sky that never sleep,” are carried around the town accompanied by drumming, flute-playing, and shouts of encouragement. These lanterns are assembled specifically for the festival and cannot be viewed at any other time. During hands-on time, you can try hitting the taiko drums and take commemorative photos in front of the giant lanterns. For those who want to leisurely watch the event, spectator seating (chairs) are available for a fee. Applications are also accepted for those who want to participate in the festival by pulling joukakugata tourou (the giant castle-shaped lantern) (advance reservation required).
