Weeping cherry trees of Kakunodate (Semboku City, Akita Prefecture)

In the area from Omote-machi to Higashikatsuraku-cho, where the samurai residences continue to stand, there are about a hundred weeping cherry trees lining both sides of the road, which are reflected on the Yakuimon gates and black wooden walls. The samurai residences always present lyrical scenery paired with the weeping cherry trees during the cherry blossom season, as well as when the blossoms fall to reveal fresh green leaves, during the autumn foliage season, and when the snow falls. The 162 weeping cherry trees in Kakunodate Town have been designated as a national Natural Monument.
