Tsutsumi Dolls(Tsutsumi no Ohinakkoya)

The two major clay dolls of Japan: Fushimi dolls in the west and Tsutsumi dolls in the east.

Tsutsumi dolls of the east and the Fushimi dolls of the west are said to be the two major origins of clay dolls. The area excels in kabuki and ukiyoe-style dolls and have gained fame for their elegant use of color and refined forms, which has exerted great influence on clay dolls and papier-mache dolls throughout the Tohoku region. Traditional craft designated by Miyagi Prefecture governor (February 16, 1984)
