It is said to be the oldest Soto Zen temple in Akita City, located at the family temple of the Ando clan. It is said that Fujiwara no Fujifusa, a close aide to Emperor Go-Daigo, became a monk and became the second head priest as Muto Ryu. (The temple gate and main hall are designated as tangible cultural properties of the city.)
