ONSEN GASTRONOMY WALKING in AKITA INU NO SATO ODATE (Odate-shi, Akita Prefecture)

Awarded 1st place for the Unique Course Division in the National ONSEN GASTRONOMY WALKING Competition held 24 times nationwide in 2018!

[Exclusive to residents of Akita Prefecture]

Gastronomy tourism promotes food made with the ingredients, customs, traditions, and history of a local climate and experiences of local food culture.

“ONSEN gastronomy walking” is a new experience that adds Japan's world-renowned ""hot springs"" to the mix.

① Enjoy walking in the early summer breeze along the abandoned railroad of the Kosaka Railway, which was discontinued 12 years ago.

An Akita dog will be waiting for you at the Furusawa Onsen (hot spring) at the finish line.

② The course around Yatate Pass takes you through a scenic forest of natural Akita cedars and the remnants of history, such as the old Ushu Highway.

The course was selected as one of the “100 best historical roads” in 1996.

Both the Kosaka Railway and Yatate Pass received the first-place ""Unique Course Award"" from among ONSEN and gastronomy events held nationwide in 2018.

[Exclusive to residents of Akita Prefecture]

The “Nagaki Gorge” course takes you from Nagaki Gorge to Furusawa Onsen and passes by the world’s largest wooden dome while you enjoy the rare experience of walking along the tracks of the Kosaka Railway, a local line that was discontinued in 2009.

The “Ushu Kaido” course starts and ends at the Yatate Pass Roadside Station and takes you through the Akita cedars along the historical Ushu Highway.

Enjoy the rich local nature and food made from seasonal ingredients and meat.

And, when you’re tired from your journey, take a dip in the hot springs of Odate Gurumi Hot Spring Village!
