Hakka Toge Viewpoint

The best viewpoint among the many observation decks surrounding Lake Towada

There are several observation decks that overlook Lake Towada, but the views from the Hakka Toge Viewpoint, positioned at the end point of the Jukai Line, is rated as the best of them all. Once you ascend the 631-meter high viewpoint, a magnificent view spreads out before your eyes. A mountain range, formed by the outer ring of the crater that Lake Towada sits in, presents itself directly in front of the viewpoint, accompanied by the compellingly beautiful view of the blue surface of the lake.

Wild cherry blossoms bloom in May, and verdant greens emerge in June. In the summer months of July and August, the area is bustling with activity, including the Kosui Matsuri (Lake Festival) and holiday campers. Autumn leaves cover the outer ring mountain range in gorgeous hues in September and October. In winter, Lake Towada falls silent and still. The beauty of nature spreads out before one’s eyes in all four seasons.

A short 15-minute walk from the Hakka Toge Viewpoint is the Shimeitei Viewpoint, which counts among the “Eight Views of Japan.” It is a popular spot, because Lake Towada is visible as a heart-shape from this viewpoint. So why not add it to the itinerary for your visit to Hakka Toge Viewpoint?
