Omoriyama Zoo is located in a corner of Omoriyama Park on Mount Omori, a scenic location with an observatory offering a superb panoramic view of the city of Akita.
The zoo offers displays of animals in their native habitats including a “Forest of Chimpanzees” recreating their life in the trees with climbing ropes stretched between logs. Visitors can enjoy an up-close view of animal mealtimes, with ring-tailed lemurs running overhead and racoons washing their own food in water trays. Feeding small animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs is particularly popular with children.
Children and students receive free admission to the zoo. In addition to the observatory, Omoriyama Park offers a range of entertaining activities including well-equipped campsites and a historic steam train display. Enjoy a day out in this park suitable for people of all ages!
