Mt. Adatara is one of the active volcanoes and has been selected as one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan. The mountain is generally gentle, and a ropeway operates from the Okudake trailhead, making it relatively easy for even beginners to climb. The summit of the mountain is gentle, but there is a small rocky peak protruding from the peak, which is the origin of the alias “Nipple Mountain.

Yakushidake Panorama Park, just a short walk from the ropeway's summit station, is a great spot for viewing the autumn leaves. The contrast between the carpet of fiery autumn leaves and the clear blue sky of the “real sky” is spectacular.
