Akiu Great Falls - one of the three most famous waterfalls in Japan

Designated as a place of scenic beauty, this waterfall has a width of 6 meters and a drop of 55 meters. It is one of the three most famous waterfalls in Japan, along with Kegon Falls (Tochigi Prefecture) and Nachi Falls (Wakayama Prefecture). 

It was also selected as one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan. You can enjoy astounding views of lush greenery in early summer and fall foliage in autumn.

Directions
Miyagi Kotsu Bus: Take the bus from JR Sendai Station's West Exit Bus Pool No. 8, and get off at Akiu Otaki bus stop (operates only on Saturdays and public holidays)
Take a city bus bound for Nojiricho Kita (Route 85) or Futakuchi (Route 87) at JR Ayashi Station Bus Stop No. 2, and get off at Akiu Otaki.
Car Park
Standard-sized cars: Approx. 200 Spaces (Includes the large parking lot, temporary parking lot, and Takitsubo parking lot)
Duration
5-10 minutes to Takimidai Observatory from the large parking lot, and about a 20-30 minute walk to Takitsubo (waterfall basin)
