Farmers in Obanazawa have benn growing watermelons for 50 years and have long been using the EM farming method to produce safe and delicious watermelons and vegetables with less than half the normal amount of pesticides and chemical fertilizers.
The flesh of Obanazawa watermelons are so delicious thanks in part to the large difference in temperature between day and night.
In addition to the famous Kodama watermelons, you can also take home pumpkins and potatoes.
