Approximately 500 azaleas cover the shrine grounds

The azalea is the flower of Shichinohe Town and is well known by the townspeople. At Tenno-jinja Shrine, about 500 mountain azaleas bloom in spring, covering the entire grounds.

Visitors can enjoy viewing the azaleas from various perspectives, such as strolling through the azalea tunnel or from the observatory in Kashiwaba Park (the ruins of Shichinohe Castle, a national historic site) located across the street.

During the blooming period, the Shichinohe Spring Festival is held, and the Tenno Azalea Festival is held at Tenno Shrine, the main site of the festival. Ema lanterns and tanka poems will be placed on the shrine grounds, and the shrine will be illuminated at night.
