[Special Event] Shijikairo (Tohoku’s Four-Temple Pilgrimage) (Yamadera Risshaku-ji Temple)

[Shijikairo (Tohoku’s Four-Temple Pilgrimage)]

A monk by the name of Jikaku Daishi Ennin established this temple during the Heian period (794-1185) with the support of Zuigan-ji Temple in Matsushima, Risshaku-ji Temple in Yamadera and Chuson-ji Temple and Motsu-ji Temple in Hiraizumi. Famed poet Matsuo Basho also visited these four temples during the Edo period (1603-1868), penning his travel memoir, Oku no Hosomichi, during his journey.
