The Sendai Literature Museum collects and exhibits materials on literary persons with a connection to Sendai and Miyagi Prefecture. These include Hisashi Inoue who was a novelist and the first director of the museum serving for eight years. In addition to books and magazines, the museum also stores manuscripts onto which works have been written and pens, glasses and other materials cherished by literary persons. The main purpose of the museum is to preserve long into the future many materials that would otherwise be lost over time.
There are numerous artifacts you can only see with the permanent exhibitions here. These include numerous words given on the Great East Japan Earthquake by expressive persons with a connection to Sendai, an introduction to the works of the manga sage Mikio Igarashi, and literary master tour maps that use illustrations and text to introduce stories connected with the literary masters of Miyagi. The museum also holds special exhibitions on occasion. There is a special menu associated with the exhibitions in the Higashi no Mori cafe. You can have fun here together with the exhibitions.
The Sendai Literature Museum is located beyond Dainohara Forest Park where you can enjoy a feeling like that of getting lost in a forest. There are many ups and down on the mountain roads. Nevertheless, a nice way to enjoy yourself is by taking a stroll through the spacious green forest park if you have the time and are a good walker.
