Ryotsu Onsen

A lakeside hot spring on Sado with beautifying properties

This hot spring area is close to Ryotsu Port on Sado Island. The five hot springs of Ryotsu, Shiizaki, Kamoko, Akitsu and Sumiyoshi that surround Lake Kamo are collectively known as Ryotsu Hot Spring area. There is a legend that an injured crested ibis came here to bathe in the waters and soothe its injuries.

All of these hot springs are close to port and in a perfect location for sightseeing. There are also springs where you can see both the lake and the Sea of Japan. Another pleasure is the delicious and beautifully presented food that is unique to Sado.

The spring water wells up from a depth of 800m and is effective at warming and moisturising the body. It is popular as a spring with beautifying properties.
