Takada Castle Site Park Cherry Blossom Festival

Drink in the beauty of night-time cherry blossoms at one of Japan's three great night-time cherry blossom festivals

The cherry blossoms of Takada Castle Site Park are considered as one of the three great cherry blossoms for night viewing, together with Ueno Park in Tokyo and Hirosaki Castle Park in Aomori. The combination of Takada Castle and the cherry blossoms really evokes a Japanese feeling.

Around the massive inner and outer moats of Takada Castle Site Park are approximately 4,000 someiyoshino cherry trees. The view of row upon row of cherry trees in full bloom, backed by the sight of snow-capped Mt. Myoko, is truly stunning! The “Cherry Blossom Road” that forms a tunnel of cherry blossoms is also superb. At night the paper lanterns are lit, and the scene transforms to a magical pink-hued cherry blossom night. The sight of the illuminated blossoms and the three-storied turret of Takada Castle, together with the reflection of the blossoms in the moat, is truly wondrous and incredibly photogenic.

For the duration of the festival approximately 300 stalls are set up and the area bustles with people for this traditional spring gathering in Echigo. Have something to eat and something to drink while you enjoy the magnificent blossoms.
